Radio Catalog for the radio manufacturer Sherwood Radio Ltd.; Balmain NSW

Sherwood Radio operated from 6 King Street, Balmain NSW Australia from 1934 to 1948. It was managed by Eddington McInnes Sherwood. He was the husband of Nellie Stewart and the father of Ted and Helen (dec'd) and myself, Bronte, and Suzanne. Our father died in 1948 and the business was sold. However, we grew up listening to news, radio serials, game shows and music from Console 1 (below) where we lived in a Tudor-style house at Killara.

Fast forward to the 2010s. With the help of the Internet, I sought out vintage Sherwood valve radios and amazingly found that they still exist. Here are some which we own and some which are owned by other people.

Console1: Valve radiogram with Garrard turntable. At Canberra, NSW.

Sherwood Radio February 1936. From Trove. The seven valve Magic Eye and the superheterodyne receivers are featured on this site.

Console 1936: Beautifully restored by Steve Milliken 2016. Mouseover to see 'before'. At Hobart, Tasmania.
